ABOUT ME

Learning the Language of My Body

The Journey Begins

My name is Heather, and I have been on a journey of learning a second language since 2019. This language is my body. It had been sending me messages for years, but I didn’t start listening until they were placed in front of me on paper, a diagnosis: breast cancer.

Deepening the Understanding

I was already very health conscious, but this diagnosis caused me to dive deep into research (my husband was such a great support in this, I must add!). Watching lectures, reading books and studies, and speaking with many incredible people formed in me a knowledge and empowerment to actually understand what my body is saying. Finally.

I’m not saying I always get it right, but I now have clarity.

Learning What Is Important

I found my ideal body support team and became forever changed in how I see my health and what is most valuable to me.

Of course, my family and the things I love have always mattered deeply. BUT what was it that I kept forgetting? What had my body been trying to tell me all those years through stress and fatigue?

I had forgotten about ME.

Thank you, cancer, for leading me to a mirror. For making me pause long enough to see what I had been neglecting. I take care of myself now, and in turn I show up as a loving wife and mother in the most grounded way I have ever experienced. I am more present in my life than I ever knew was possible.

Cancer did this for me.

Understanding the Message

When doctors tell me I am “NED,” yes, that feels good, but I am still very aware of this messenger.

What is cancer?
Abnormal cells that no longer die off when they should. Instead, something in the cellular environment allows those cells to survive and replicate.

How does this become a language, a message from my body?

I watch patterns over time in my labs, my genetics, and my lifestyle. I assess my metabolic terrain history, including family and life experiences. Our bodies are not only responding to food and environmental exposures, they also carry the imprint of stress and trauma.

The changes in these patterns are the messages. My job is simply to support these changes, to support my cells so they can do what they were designed to do.

I am learning this language more every day, and I am enjoying the journey, even the harder emotional healing parts.

It may seem strange to say that cancer broke my cocoon and set me free, to see me.

Well… it did.

Your Turn to Pause

This journey has moved me to help others learn the language of their body, in all parts of their journey. I am a Metabolic Terrain Advocate, and I am here for you.

Lots of Love,

Heather
